THIS TIME SHOOT DATES RESCHEDULED

My grandmother passed away yesterday and today I found out that they are having the funeral back in my hometown of Chicago next Saturday. That was supposed to be our first day of shooting so I was forced to make a tough decision and reshedule the shoot dates. Now we will be filming 2/1 and 2/2 instead of 1/23 and 1/24. Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and prayers.

NON-PROFIT PARTNERSHIP

I am proud to announce that myself, actress/writer Reagan Gomez, my producer Liberty Madison, and my production company Cherry Entertainment have partnered up with the non-profit "Our Fallen Soliders" and will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from our film to this great organization.

Our short film "This Time" deals with a soldier who has come home to war and is trying to get his life back in order and get his girl back.  Sadly a lot of soldiers do not get the chance to make it home and this great organizations raises funds to help families who have lost loved ones in war.

We are proud to be able to use the vehicle of film to give back and make a difference in the lives of the families who have given up so much in order for us to be safe.

Feel free to make a donation.

ABOUT OUR FALLEN SOLDIER:
-------------------------------------------------
Our Fallen Soldier was founded on
August 1, 2006 by the family of Sgt.
Kyle A. Colnot, who was killed in action
on April 22, 2006 outside of Baghdad,
Iraq.

Kyle was eulogized as a true blue
infantryman, his mission on earth is
done, ours has just begun.

Currently there are approximately
170,000 troops deployed in Iraq, many
more in Afghanistan, over 4,800 of our
patriots have given their lives for our
freedom. Each and every one of them
must be remembered. Remembered
for their valor, loyalty to the United
States of America, and willingness to
lay down their lives for us and the
liberation of our fellow man in distant
lands.

Current technologies have provided a
world wide forum. This website is for
the use of the families and friends of
fallen soldiers. Memorial pages will be
established for each soldier. Words,
pictures and music can be placed on
the pages. This is at no charge. The
memorial page will remain on the
website indefinitely.

AUDITION RECAP

So today I spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to ustream. I finally got the stream, working around 10:30 and I got dressed and head out to the audition location.  Luckily the night before Dianne Ashford let me print out some of my forms and paperwork for the casting since I don't have my own printer yet. My friend Noree Victoria emailed me some sign in sheets and forms that she used for previous castings and what a life saver they were.

I got to the spot around 11:30 and got a lay of the land.  My contact there was very helpful in setting me up with a dope spot to hold the casting and to have a holding area. Maybe when I get more established I can get someone else to do this type of stuff for me but for now it was cool setting up. Yolanda and Ivan came through at 12p to assist me with everything.  SHOUT OUT TO NOREE VICTORIA FOR PREPPING THEM AND HAVING THEM HELP ME OUT. COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT NV!!! I wanted to make sure that if anything that these auditions were professional. In production what can go wrong will go wrong but I like to not cause my own problems.  We also emailed back several hundred people and I was not sure how many people were going to actually show up.  The weather was really bad and a lot of folks cancelled because they didn't feel comfortable driving.  I respect the decision and maybe we'll catch you on the next one but if I can make it...

Anyway my casting director Binti Lee was in Houston, my producer Liberty Madison was in Dallas and my writer and star of the film Reagan Gomez was in LA.  THANK GOD FOR USTREAM. Thanks to that technology they were all able to view the casting in Atlanta all from the comfort of their own home.  It also is apart of my brand because I pride myself in being transparent and open with my process. Hell I'm learning too and your comments and feedback allow me to continue doing what works and stop doing what doesn't.

I am proud to say that we started the auditions at 1P sharp. Take that Color People Time and luckily we had some actresses come in early and they were ready when we were. We had a wide range of ladies auditioning and it was great to see everyone in person. We had some funny moments with some people (If you saw the ustream you know what I'm talking about) but we also lucked up and found some really talented people.

It was good to know that some of the ladies took my advice about auditioning and submitting for projects. I could tell. There were a couple people who gave me sexy modeling type head shots and then there were a couple of people who didn't have head shots at all. NEVER come to an audition without a head shot. It shows that you're not professional regardless of how good an actor you might be.

I asked the ladies to tell me something about themselves before we did anything and I did this to loosen them up and make them not feel quite as nervous. Auditioning sucks and is a nerve wrecking experience but the way you describe yourself tells a  lot about your personality. Some people came across as bragging with their personal descriptions and always know that humble is always the best policy.

One thing that really stood out to me in the ladies auditions is that one of the girls, I think her name was Paris, wore an actual bridesmaid dress for the audition. Dressing for the part will NEVER work against you. It's been 6 hours since we had our auditions and I remember her most vividly. Not saying that you have to but it helps if you play it right and have the resources to do so.

We saw the fellas around 3 and me and Ivan had some miscommunication. I told him to have all the fellas read for Dre and he had them read for Malcolm. The first guy came in and auditioned and I thought he made that choice himself. His audition suffered because of it and once I found out what happened I tried to call him back to correct the situation. He never returned but I tried. It still bothers me.  I know how serious this is and I hate to not give someone the same chance everyone else had.

After that initial snag I can honestly say that the fellas brought it. They were definitely prepared and it showed. Not many of them read from the script and most had the lines memorized. Always a good thing!!!

A lot of them had great energy and made the character their own. No one wants to see a dry audition where you are just reading lines. Say it like how you would say it if you were in that position. If you can't lose yourself in front of 2 people in a room then how can you expect to do so on set with a hundred person crew staring at you.

We had some characters. One dude stood out "Barefoot" Motherfucking Bill. This white dude came to our audition with no shoes on and painted blue toenails. I swear I cannot make this stuff up.  He read for "Malcolm" who is obviously a black character but he did his thing and told me that he has booked roles before when he didn't fit the character descriptions and I believed him. As crazy as he was, I remember him. I may use him as an extra but if I had another project I might have used him. He was funny as hell.

I also have to say that I was reading everyone chat room comments during the streaming and I must say that you guys are hilarious and entertaining yourselves. It was great to see immediate feedback like that with peoples auditions. It was like screening the movie before we even casted it. Thanks for the feedback and for checking it out.

All in all I think we saw over 80 people I definitely think we can fill the rest of our movie from what I saw today. Reagan sent me a text every time she liked somebody so it felt like a reality show for real.

I really want to thank everyone that came out today and auditioned for our project. It takes a lot of courage to get in front of people and make yourself vulnerable like that so I commend you all. For everyone who hit me asking me to be apart of the project but then didn't audition, sorry, I don't work like that. Nobody gave me anything and I will not give you anything, you have to earn like I have to earn it.

We will have www.thistimeshortfilm.com up and running as a fully functioning website sometime next week and we will post our main cast there at that time.  Just because we didn't give you lines doesn't mean we won't use you. We have a wedding scene to create, a bridal room to fill up and club scene to fill out with many featured roles with guaranteed screen time so look for Binti Lee to send you an email letting you know in what capacity we will be using you.

Thanks for the read my long blog. I had a long day to go with it.  I took Yolanda and Ivan to Red Lobster to thank them for their help after the casting. Cheddar Biscuits are just as good as money in my book :)

1/8 PRE-PRODUCTION

Today was a very busy day. I had a conference call at noon with a wedding planner about the design and decor for the film.  It went well. We agreed on a Spring wedding with Mint Green colors.  I'm still looking for the perfect church but I have a great back-up if I don't find what I am looking for.

I put the word out to a great sound mixer that I worked with on Stomp The Yard 2. There is no way I can pay him his full rate but hopefully he'll look out. Sound is THE most important aspect of the filming process that many people ignore. Shitty sound will KILL your film, EVERY TIME.

I went out and bought a $200 Web Cam so I could Ustream this casting call for everyone. It also kills two birds with on stone for me as I will be able to record every one's auditions and go back and review them later. I pride myself on being open with my process and it's dope that I will be able to do this.

I had to run out and print out a ton of documents for this casting call tomorrow. Sign in sheet, notes etc.

All in all it was a very productive day. I have no idea how many people are actually going to show up for the auditions tomorrow but I am praying that I can find the right people to complete casting for this film.  We shoot in two weeks.

1/7 PRE-PRODUCTION

Today I continued on with my script analysis and set up some conference calls for Friday to get the wedding set designed and to figure out a way to clothes for it. I have never been married myself or even gone to a wedding now that I think about it so this is going to be a challenge for me.  I will definitely have to do some more research just to make sure that the wedding that we film comes across as organic and real.

1/6 PRE-PRODUCTION

Today I scouted a location that I really love. Me and the homey Albert Sye are trying to work out a partnership between my film and Conjure Cognac which will allow us to film in Ludacris's restaurant "Straits" and in return for product placement with Conjure.  We checked the spot out around 6 at night and I loved it. I think we can accomplish everything we need to for our club scene if they let us shoot there. After our meeting I had to go home and write up a one page proposal.  Finger's crossed.

Today I also got in touch with a web designer to build the website for the short.  I want to have it done next week and have the casting section complete with everyone's headshots in it so I can have people go to the site to see if they were casted or not.

The casting is coming up in a couple of days and y'all should see some of the replies I have received in my inbox in response to letting people know when and where the auditions are.  You can really tell who is a professional and who is just messing around with acting from two sentences in an email, I swear.  We will have a lot of people to see so hopefully it won't be too crazy.  Looking forward to it.

N'DAMBI MUSIC VIDEO SHOOT

Today I directed a music video for R&B singer N'Dambi Blue for her second single "Nobody Jones" off her latest album Pink Elephant. We shot from 8A to 11p so I didn't have much time to work on the short.

Here goes N'Dambi's first single "Can't Hardly Wait"

1//4 PRE-PRODUCTION: WEDDING DRESSES

An Atlanta designer/stylist sent me some pictures of possible wedding gowns, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses for us to use in our movie.  What do you think? Can you picture Reagan Gomez or Terri J. Vaughn in any of these?

1/3/09 Pre-Production

Today was a little hectic. I'm prepping a music video that I'm shooting this Tuesday in Atlanta, I'm prepping a music video I'm shooting on the 17th of this month and I'm also in pre-production on this short film.

In regards to "This Time" I finished all of my script analysis of the main character Kevin and wrote a one page backstory biography on his character.

I finally got in contact with a person that maybe able to get me Ludacris's restaurant "Straits" to shoot the Lounge/Club scene in a location and maybe even some product placement with Conjure.

Today I also did some adjustments on the script in order to make the story flow better. That is beauty of working on a film as opposed to a TV show. In a film the director has the control because it is his vision but in a TV show the director is just a hired gun and the writer/producer has the power.

We also cast the rest of this thing next weekend in Atlanta.  I look forward to meeting everyone. Should be fun. Starting to get excited we're less than three weeks out from shooting now,.

ACTORS AND ACTRESSES: "THIS TIME" AUDITION INFORMATION

Today, casting director Binti Lee sent out emails to several hundred actors and actresses who submitted headshots and resumes to audition for "This Time" on 1/9/10.  We included information in that email about the location, date, time and sides for the audition.  We will be looking to cast people in feature roles other than the ones we set out sides for as well but we are using what we sent out to you for the audition. If you didn't get an email then something was probably wrong with your submission (you sent a link for you resume/headshots perhaps). If you have any issues please take them up with @bintilee. Other than follow the information in your email and I look forward to meeting you all next Saturday.

Director: Cherry

P.S. We may Ustream the casting, just an idea.
